Strotus marshalli View in CoL n. sp.

Strotus bicristatus Montrouzier sensu Marshall (in error).

DESCRIPTION. — The description of Marshall of the genus Strotus contains the main features of the species here described as new. Although rather similar in overall appearance to Peteinus bicristatus , S. marshalli differs in having a deep, transverse sulcus between rostrum and frons, a pronounced indentation on rostrum above antennal insertions, and a prominent tubercle above antennal insertions, and also in lacking long setae fringing strongly costate expansions of elytra. The two habitus illustrations in Marshall (1956) show clearly the similarities and differences between Strotus and Peteinus .

Length: 6.0- 6.1 mm.

TYPE MATERIAL. — Holotype male, 6.1 x 3.8 mm, Woodlark, A S Meek, 99-191, Trigonops bicristatus Montr. , det. from descr., G. A. K. Marshall, genotype of Strotus Mshl, BMNH . Paratype male, 6.0 mm, same data as holotype, glued on its side on same card, BMNH .
