Body length 3.0– 3.3 mm. Bristles yellow (including bristles on basal section of costa). Acrostichal bristle present. Scutum with wide cruciate pattern, sometimes interrupted medially; notopleuron sometimes brown. Scutellum and laterotergites brown. Pleuron yellow with brown vertical stripe in posterodorsal corner of anepisternum. Legs light yellow to white. Head largely yellow; frons sometimes orange posteriorly; face, parafacial, gena and occiput white; face sometimes brown on upper 2/3; ocellar spot brown; parafacial and gena silvery tomentose. Abdomen brown with tergite 1 and central emargination on tergite 2 yellow, and with surstylus and cerci white. Wing clouded from costa to M 1 on distal 1/3 and lightly around crossveins; distance between crossveins not more than length of posterior cross­vein.

Female

Externally as described for male except terminalia yellow.

As described for C. pleuralis except as follows: surstylus ¾ height of cerci, pointed and slightly arcuate; distiphallus stout and 2/3 as long.

Female genitalia ( Fig. 70 View FIGURES 67–70 )

Spermatheca tapered apically, very weakly sclerotized with width 0.2 times length.

Spermathecal duct very short and not well differentiated from spermatheca. Ventral receptacle small and spherical. Subterminal flagellum nearly five times length of ventral receptacle.

Distribution: Bolivia, Brazil, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Panama, Trinidad (Map 9).

Holotype: BOLIVIA. Mapiri, S. Caros, 800m, 4.i.1903, Schnuse (1♂, SMTD).
