Genus Crypturoptes Novaes and Carvallo
Crypturoptes dentatus Novaes and Carvallo, 1952
Hosts and distribution. This species was described ex Crypturellus strigulosus (Temminck) and C. noctivagus (Wied-Neuwied) ( Tinamiformes : Tinamidae ) from Brazil (Pernambuco, Espirito Santo) (Novaes & Carvallo 1952). Later on, it was recovered from the last host from Colombia, Mexico and Venezuela, ex C. boucardi (Sclater) from Mexico, ex C. eurytropus (Pelzeln) from Brazil, and ex C. cinnamomeus (Lesson) from Mexico ( Gaud et al. 1972). This mite has never been recollected since the original description.
Remarks. The records ex C. noctivagus from outside Brazil could be errors ( Gaud et al. 1972). According to Clements et al. (2011) C. noctivagus it is restricted to Eastern Brazil, therefore it is probable that C. dentatus was recovered from another Crypturoptes sp. in Colombia, Mexico and Venezuela.
