COMMENTS: This single specimen was in a consignment sent to Dr. Anton Reichenow (1847–1941) by the collectors Dr. Carl Adolf Georg Lauterbach (1864–1937), Dr. Hermann Kersting (born 1863, fl. until 1911), and Ernst Tappenbeck (fl. 1896–1901) from the tributary of the Ramu river at the North slopes of the Bismarck mountains in former German New Guinea. Kersting had previously been active in Africa before joining Lauterbach's New Guinea expedition. He later worked for the German government in Togo, on Yap Island and, from 1911 onwards, on Ponape Island (Carolines), and in German New Guinea (Koloniales Bildarchiv Frankfurt a. Main 1920, vol. II: 259). Tappenbeck, in contrast, seemed to have returned to Europe, subsequently writing a book on German New Guinea ( Tappenbeck 1901). Lauterbach had previously visited the Gogol river, New Guinea, in 1890. He was the expedition leader in 1896, when the type of Chlamydodera lauterbachi was discovered during the Ramuriverexpedition. He was subsequently upgraded to director of the NewGuineaCompany in 1898–1903 .
