Family Cybaeidae Banks, 1892 View in CoL View at ENA (new circumscription)

Type genus: Cybaeus L. Koch, 1868 (type species: Amaurobius tetricus C.L. Koch, 1839 )

Diagnosis. Cybaeidae , Cicuriniidae new rank, Toxopidae , and Dictynidae form a monophyletic group characterized by the presence of a complex conductor that usually surrounds the embolus and articulates with the tegulum by means of medial hematodochae. Cybaeidae can be distinguished from all other spider families by having 3 claws and lacking a cribellum (Bennett 1991, Griswold et al. 2005, Wheeler et al. 2017); a single row of tarsal trichobothria (Bennett 1991), and a very short distal segment of the posterior lateral spinnerets (Bennett 1991), with the spigots clustered (separated into 2 long vertical lines in Agelenidae ).

Composition. Cybaeidae sensu Wheeler et al. (2017) and Mastigusa Menge, 1854 (Koch and Berendt 1854), with 3 genera previously included in Cybaeidae (Cedicus Simon, 1875, Cedicoides Charitonov, 1946, Paracedicus Fet, 1993) moved to Desidae in accordance with Marusik et al. (2023).
