Peromyia elongatula View in CoL sp. nov.
Fig. 24 View FIGURES 24–27
Diagnosis. Peromyia elongatula closely resembles the Japanese P. avia ( Jaschhof 2001: fig. 51A–C), a species of the P. sanguinea group ( Jaschhof 2017b: 107). Both differ from each other mainly in genitalic characters, as follows. The gonostylus of P. elongatula is straight rather than curved ( Fig. 24 View FIGURES 24–27 , ↓ 1); the tegmen, particularly the tapered portion beyond the ventral shield, is longer (↓ 2); and the microtrichia on the medial gonocoxal bridges are inconspicuous, not dense and large. As another distinction, in P. elongatula all claws are untoothed, while the claws on the midlegs of P. avia are finely toothed. Other characters, such as the non-setose postfrons, flagellomeres with two girdles of hair-shaped translucent sensilla, postocular bristles present in a single row, and the four-segmented palpus, are all shared by both species. A Peromyia more distantly related to P. elegantula is P. composita Jaschhof , whose tegmen and ventral shield are of similar outline, while the gonostylus is markedly more slender and the nonsetose, ventroanterior portion of the gonocoxae is much larger ( Jaschhof 1998: figs 228a–d). Females and preimaginal stages of P. elongatula are unknown.
Etymology. The species epithet, a Latin adjective meaning ̒slightly elongated’, refers to the shape of the teg- men.
