Amydetes caetite View in CoL sp. nov.

( Figs. 11 View FIGURES 10 – 18 , 32 View FIGURES 23 – 40 , 51, 70, 88, 116, 134, 184–187)

Diagnosis. Maxillary palpomere IV 1 /3 longer than labial palpomere III. Pronotum with lateral margins slightly divergent posteriad, posterior angle strongly projected, acute and fairly straight down. Abdominal sternum VI with lantern as long and wide as 1/2 sternum length and width, abdominal sternum VII with lantern as long as 3/4 sternum length and as wide as 1/2 sternum width. Pygidium with median lobe beveled.

Colouration. ( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 10 – 18 ) Integument dark-brown. Fronto-clypeus, antenna base, pronotum disc, pro and mesocoxas and mesosternum yellowish-brown. Antennomeres with flabellum gradually darkening toward apex, from yellowish-brown to dark-brown. Prothorax with expansions pale yellow. Elytron black.

Head. ( Figs. 32 View FIGURES 23 – 40 , 51) Fronto-clypeus slightly depressed up to antennal sockets, anterior margin 1/3 wider than distance between antennal sockets and slightly wider than distance between antennifers. Antenna with 40 antennomeres (n=2); antennomere III 1 /5 longer than pedicel, with flabellum 2x longer than antennomere III. Labrum with anterior margin straight. Maxillary palpomere IV 2x longer than III, 1/3 longer than labial palpomere III. Gular sutures as separeted as maxillary palpomere IV width.

Thorax. (Figs. 70, 88) Pronotum with lateral margins slightly divergent posteriad, posterior angle strongly projected, acute and fairly straight down; setigerous punctures irregularly separeted 1– 2 x the diameter of a puncture. Hypomeron ca. 1/3 longer than high. Elytron slightly dehiscent; marginal costa with anterior margin not projected. Mesosternum with posterior margin rounded.

Abdomen. ( Figs. 116 View FIGURES 116 – 124 , 134 View FIGURES 134 – 142 , 184–187 View FIGURES 184 – 195 ) Abdominal sternum V with posterior margin straight or irregular. Abdominal sternum VIII with posterior margin irregular or with posterior margin discreetly projected. Abdominal sternum VI with lantern as long and wide as 1/2 sternum length and width. Abdominal sternum VII with lantern as long as 3/4 sternum length and as wide as 1/2 sternum width. Pygidium with median lobe discreetly beveled, as ong as or slightly short than lateral lobe, and as wide as 1/2 posterior margin width; indentation between lateral lobe and median lobe developed; lateral lobe developed and acuminate. Terminalia: Syntergite with anterior and posterior margin symmetrics, anterior margin rounded and rudimentary; suture between abdominal tergites IX and X conspicuous. Abdominal sternum IX oblongo, 1/3 longer than wide; 1/3 longer than syntergite; wider at posterior 1/3; with lateral margins divergent posteriad up to 3/4 sternum length, bristled and slightly pigmented at posterior 1/2; anterior margin sinuous. Aedeagus: Phallobase discreetly asymmetric. Parameres basally constricted, divergent posteriad. Paramere and phallum apically rounded. Phallum 1/4 longer than paramere, with lateral margins sinuous, ventral plate weakly sclerotized, discreetly enlarged toward apex.

Type-material. Holotype: BRAZIL. Mato grosso: Barra do Tapirapé, II/1963, B. Malkin col., male (MZSP); one male Paratype: idem XII/1960, B. Malkin col. (MZSP).

Etymology. Caetite means Cerrado in tupi-guarani language ( Bueno, 1987). Cerrado is the biome in which A. caetite dwells.

Remarks. Amydetes caetite resembles A. lucernula sp. nov. ( FIG.11 View FIGURES 10 – 18 ) and A. vivianii sp. nov. ( FIG.15 View FIGURES 10 – 18 ), from it differs by abdominal sternum IX 1 /3 longer than syntergite (2x longer in the quoted species). A. caetite differs from A. lucernula sp. nov. by abdominal sternum VI with lanterns as long and wide as 1/2 stenum length and width (lantern almost as long as 1/2 sternum length and less than 1/3 sternum width in A. lucernula sp. nov.) and pronotum with posterior angle strongly projected. It differs from Amydetes vivianii sp. nov. by the smaller lanterns (abdominal sternum VI and VII with lanterns as long as and with slightly more than 3/4 width of these sterna).
