Amydetes bellorum View in CoL sp. nov.

( Figs. 13 View FIGURES 10 – 18 , 35 View FIGURES 23 – 40 , 54, 73, 91, 97, 119, 137, 196–199)

Diagnosis. Fronto-clypeus with anterior margin 3x wider than distance between antennal sockets. Maxillary palpomere III short (IV at least 6x longer than III). Hypomeron almost1/4 longer than high. Abdominal sterna VI and VII with lanterns as long as 3/4 sternum length and as wide as 4/5 sternum width. Abdominal sternum VIII medially projected.

Colouration. ( Fig. 13 View FIGURES 10 – 18 ) Integument dark-brown, Pronotum with expansions brown. Elytron with humeri yellowish-brown.

Head. ( Figs. 35 View FIGURES 23 – 40 , 54) Fronto-clypeus strongly depressed up to antennal sockets, anterior margin 3x wider than distance between antennal sockets and slightly wider than distance between antennifers. Antenna with 35–38 antennomeres (n=3); antennomere III slightly less than 1/5 longer than pedicel, flabellum ca. 2.5x longer than antennomere III. Labrum with anterior margin emarginate. Maxillary palpomere IV short (IV at least 6x longer than III), 1/3 longer than labial palpomere III. Gular sutures as separeted as maxillary palpomere IV width.

Thorax. (Figs. 73, 91, 97) Pronotum with lateral margins divergent posteriad, with posterior angle weakly developed, acute and fairly straight down; setigerous punctures separeted 1.5– 2x the diameter of a puncture. Hypomeron almost 1/4 longer than high. Scutellum subparallel-sided. Elytron slightly dehiscent; marginal costa with anterior margin not projected. Mesosternum with posterior margin rounded.

Abdomen. (119, 137, 196–199) Abdominal sternum V straight. Abdominal sterna VI and VII with lanterns as long as 3/4 sternum lenght and as wide as 4/5 sternum width. Abdominal sternum VIII with posterior margin medially projected. Pygidium with median lobe acuminate, at least 3x longer than lateral lobe, and as wide as 4/5 posterior margin width; indentation between lateral lobe and median lobe well developed; lateral lobe projected, acuminate. Terminalia: Syntergite with anterior margin symmetric and rounded, posterior asymmetric; suture between abdominal tergites IX and X conspicuous. Abdominal sternum IX 2x longer than syntergite, 3x longer than wide; wider at posterior 1/3; with lateral margins divergent posteriad up to 2/3 sternum length, bristled and slightly pigmented at posterior 1/3; posterior margin sinuous. Aedeagus: Phallobase symmetric. Parameres basally constricted, separetedd subapically ca. 1/3 phallum width, rounded apically. Phallum 1/4 longer than paramere, slightly acuminate apically, subparallel-sided. Ventral plate weakly sclerotized and straight.

Ecology. Active from dusk to a few hours before sunrise, generally slowly flying 1–1.5m above the ground. Extremely abundant between December and January.

Etymology. The specific epithet is in honor to the Bello family, especially my dear friends André, Felipe and Leonardo, who helped me on several fieldtrips during which we collected several of these specimens.

Type-material. Holotype: BRAZIL. Rio de Janeiro: Itacuruçá (Praia Grande), 1/I/2011, Silveira, L, Rego A.B. col., male (DZRJ). Seven paratypes, same locality and collectors of holotype: 1 male, 2009; 13, 28–31 /XII/2010 (DZRJ); Angra dos Reis ( Ilha Grande, Vila Dois Rios), 1 male, 11/X/2008, Proj. Coleop. col. (DZRJ), 1 male, 10– 17/07/09, Mattos and Mermudes col. (DZRJ), 1 male, 26/I/2008, Proj. Coleop. col. (DZRJ); Itaguaí (E. Rio, Brasi) 2 males, 8/X/1966, O. Drummond col. (DZRJ); 1 male, IX/ IX/1964, W. Zikan col. (MZSP).

Remarks. Resembles Amydetes apicalis (FIG.2) and differs from it by the characteristics pointed in the Remarks section of this species.
