Diagnosis. Colouration (see below). Antennomere III as long as pedicel, flabellum 2x longer than antennomere III. Maxillary palpomere IV 4x longer than III, as long as o labial palpomere III. Abdominal sternum VIII medially projected. Pygidium with median lobe discreetly beveled.

Colouration. ( Fig. 14 View FIGURES 10 – 18 ) Integument yellowish-brown except abdominal sterna V–VII, dark-brown, and lateral margins and elytral apical 1/5, black.

Head. ( Figs. 36 View FIGURES 23 – 40 , 55) Fronto-clypeus slightly depressed up to antennal sockets, anterior margin 2/5 wider than distance between antennal sockets and slightly wider than distance between antennifers. Antenna with 32 antennomeres (n=2); antennomere III as long as pedicel, flabellum ca. 2x longer than antennomere III. Labrum with anterior margin straight. Maxillary palpomere IV 4x longer than III, as long as o labial palpomere III. Gular sutures as separeted as maxillary palpomere IV width.

Thorax. (Figs. 74, 92) Pronotum with lateral margins arcuate, slightly divergent posteriad, posterior angle weakly developed and fairly straight down; setigerous punctures irregularly separeted 1– 2 x the diameter of a puncture. Hypomeron 1.5x longer than high. Scutellum with lateral margins slightly convergent toward apex. Elytron slightly dehiscent; slightly wider subapically; marginal costa with anterior margin not projected. Mesosternum with posterior margin rounded.

Abdomen. ( Figs. 120 View FIGURES 116 – 124 , 138 View FIGURES 134 – 142 , 200–203 View FIGURES 195 – 206 ) Abdominal sternum V with posterior margin straight. Abdominal sternum VI with lantern as long as 3/4 sternum length and slightly wider than 1/2 sternum width. Abdominal sternum VII with lantern as long as 3/4 sternum length and slightly wider than 1/3 sternum width. Abdominal sternum VIII with posterior margin medially projected. Pygidium with median lobe discreetly beveled, longer than lateral lobe and as wide as 3/5 posterior margin width; indentation between lateral lobe and median lobe weakly developed; lateral lobe rudimentary. Terminalia: Syntergite with anterior margin symmetric and rounded, posterior asymmetric; suture between abdominal tergites IX and X conspicuous. Abdominal sternum IX 2 /5 longer than syntergite, slightly more than 2x longer than wide; wider at posterior 1/3; with lateral margins divergent posteriad up to 2/3 sternum length, bristled at the posterior 1/2; posterior margin sinuous. Aedeagus: Phallobase asymmetric. Parameres basally constricted, alightly overlapped subapicaly (could be na artifact, probably only contiguous). Paramere and phallum rounded apically. Phallum 1/4 longer than paramere, subparallel-sided; ventral plate sclerotized and straight.

Etymology. The specific epithet is after the Itatiaia National Park. Name in apposition.

Type-material. Holotype: BRAZIL. Rio de Janeiro: Itatiaia , Parque Nacional do Itatiaia , 750m, 22–24/X/ 2010, Wallace Beiroz and Mário Cupello col., male (MNRJ). Two paratypes, same procedence of the holotype: (Véu de Noiva 1100m) 1 male, 15/XII/1966, H. Reichardt col. (MZSP); 1 male, 27/IX/2007, Exp. MNRJ col. (MNRJ).

Remarks. Amydetes itatiaia sp. nov. resembles Amydetes apicalis (Fig. 2), by which differs by the characteristics pointed out in the Remarks section of this species.
