( Figs. 16 View FIGURES 10 – 18 , 38 View FIGURES 23 – 40 , 57, 76, 94, 122, 140, 208–211) Diagnosis. Labrum with anterior margin straight. Maxillary palpomere IV 4x longer than III. Pronotum with lateral margins divergent posteriad, posterior angle well developed, acute and deflexed. Abdominal sternum VI with lantern as long as 3/4 sternum length and slightly wider than 2/3 sternum width; abdominal sternum VII with lantern as long and wide as 3/4 sternum length and width. Pygidium with median lobe rounded, at least 3x longer than lateral lobe, and as wide as 1/2 posterior margin width; indentation between lateral lobe and median lobe well developed; lateral lobe weakly developed, rounded.
Colouration. ( Fig. 16 View FIGURES 10 – 18 ) Integument brown or dark brown. Prothorax generally with two maculae yellowishbrown on the sides, expansions pale yellow. Elytron black with suture and outer margin brown, or brown with suture and outer margin light-brown.
Head. ( Figs. 38 View FIGURES 23 – 40 , 57) Fronto-clypeus depressed up to antennal sockets, anterior margin 2x wider than distance between antennal sockets and slightly wider than distance between antennifers. Antenna with 29–32 antennomeres (n=3); antennomere III as long as pedicel; flabellum slightly less than 4x longer than antennomere III. Labrum with anterior margin straight. Maxillary palpomere IV 4x longer than III, as long as labial palpomere III.
Thorax. (Figs. 76, 94) Pronotum with lateral margins divergent posteriad, posterior angle well developed, acute and deflexed; setigerous punctures irregularly separeted 0.5–1.5x the diameter of a puncture. Hypomeron 1/4 longer than high. Scutellum with lateral margins convergent posteriad. Elytron slightly dehiscent, slightly wider subapically; marginal costa with anterior margin not projected. Mesosternum with posterior margin rounded.
Abdomen. ( Figs. 122 View FIGURES 116 – 124 , 140 View FIGURES 134 – 142 , 208–211 View FIGURES 208 – 219 ) Abdominal sternum V with posterior margin straight. Abdominal sternum VI with lantern as long as 3/4 sternum length and slightly wider than 2/3 sternum width. Abdominal sternum with lantern VII as long and wide as 3/4 sternum length and and width. Abdominal sternum VIII with posterior margin straight or irregular. Pygidium with median lobe rounded, at least 3x longer than lateral lobe, as wide as 1/2 posterior margin width; indentation between lateral lobe and median lobe well developed; lateral lobe weakly developed, rounded. Terminalia: Syntergite with anterior margin and posterior symmetrics, anterior rounded, wisps of bristles medial and laterally; suture between abdominal tergites IX and X conspicuous. Abdominal sternum IX 1 /4 longer than syntergite, 2x longer than wide; wider at posterior 1/3; lateral margins strongly divergent posteriad up to 2/3 length, bristled at posterior 1/3; posterior margin truncate. Aedeagus: Phallobase asymmetric. Parameres close-set subapically, rounded apically. Phallum 1/3 longer than paramere, with apex rounded, subparallel-sided. Ventral plate sclerotized and straight.
Type-material. Holotype: BRAZIL. Pará: Marajó, (Furo dos Macacos, Santana,) 15/X/1970, Exp. Perm. Amaz., male (MZSP). Five Paratypes from BRAZIL: Pará: Belém, 1 male, IX/1964, Dente, (MZSP); idem, (Outeiro Bosque, Arm. Malaise), 3 males, 30/IV–2/V, 1993, J. Dias and F. Ramos col. (MPEG). Maranhão: Rio Maracaçume, 1 male, 22–23/V/1963, B. Malkin col., 1 male, (MZSP).
Etymology. Marajoara refers to the city of Marajó, Pará State, Brazil.
Remarks. Amydetes marajoara sp. nov. resembles Amydetes vivianii sp. nov. ( FIG.15 View FIGURES 10 – 18 ), from which it differs by the characteristics pointed out in the Remarks section of this species.
