Abbreviated Description. Young shoots densely hispid with straight, erect simple hairs, leaflets 7–9, opposite or subopposite, 9–18 cm long, 3–5.5 cm broad, oblanceolate or elliptic, midrib, secondary and tertiary venation all impressed on the upper surface, inflorescence 2–4 cm long, subfasciculate, hispid, petals 5, free, 3–3.5 mm long, slightly imbricate, filaments fused for one quarter to one third their length, anthers 10–11, nectary absent, ovary strigose, 3-locular, locules 1-ovulate, fruit 2–2.5 cm long, 3-valved, narrowly ellipsoid, densely hispid, seed solitary, surrounded by a thin fleshy arillode.

Distribution & Ecology. Western Amazonian Brazil and adjacent Colombia and Peru, along riverbanks and in periodically flooded forest.

Relationships. On morphological grounds this species was considered to be closely related to T. rubra (FN28: 75 (1981)), a relationship confirmed by the ITS data, which shows them as an isolated pair at the end of a long branch.
