Note. In the Flora Neotropica (1981: 155) treatment, T. tocacheana C.DC. was mistakenly included in the synonymy of this subspecies. It is conspecific with T. tuberculata (see there).

Distribution & Ecology. Widespread across northern South America from Panama to Bolivia and coastal Brazil.A tree of lowland rain forest usually on non-flooded land, but often along riverbanks and rarely on periodically flooded sites.
