Ploeogaster gesana Kirkaldy, 1909 View in CoL

( Fig. 51 View FIGURES 43–51 )

Ploeogaster gesana View in CoL was a new specific name given by Kirkaldy (1909) to replace Reduvius geniculatus Lepeletier & Serville, 1825 , which was preoccupied by Reduvius geniculatus Latreille, 1811 (currently, Panstrongylus geniculatus, Triatominae View in CoL ). In the original description by Lepeletier & Serville (1825), the species was recorded from “Amérique méridionale” [= South America]. Further authors repeated this record (e.g. Amyot & Serville 1843, Stål 1872, Lethierry & Severin 1896; Wygodzinsky 1949 as South America), without providing a more specific location ( Maldonado 1990). The present record of the species from French Guiana therefore represents a new country record ( Fig. 51 View FIGURES 43–51 ).
