Promalactis latignatha sp. nov.

( Figs 4 View FIGURES 1‒6 , 10 View FIGURES 7‒12 )

Type material. THAILAND, Chieng Mai Province : Holotype ♂, Pa Pae (19.13°N, 98.72°E), 900 m, 27.X.1984, coll. Karsholt, Lomholdt and Nielsen, slide No. ZMUC-NK010 ( ZMUC). GoogleMaps

Diagnosis. The species is similar to P. fuscimaculata Wang, 2006 both superficially and in the male genitalia, but it can be distinguished by the presence of a broad lingulate gnathos and an aedeagus with a short stout cornutus (less than 1/10 length of aedeagus). In P. fuscimaculata , the gnathos is narrowly elongate sub-rectangular, and the aedeagus has a longer cornutus (approximately 1/3 the length of the aedeagus).

Description. Adult ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1‒6 ). Wingspan 12.0 mm. Head yellow, paler on frons. Labial palpus with second segment yellow, paler on inner surface; third segment yellow dorsally, basal half white and distal half black ventrally, white apically. Antenna black, flagellum annulated with white dorsally. Thorax yellow; tegula ochreous. Forewing yellow, with ochreous-yellow scales on anterior 1/3 along basal 2/3 and on posterior 1/3 along dorsum; costal margin greyish black along basal 2/3, with a dim triangular black spot at basal 3/5; dorsum with scattered black scales, forming a dim spot at end of fold; yellowish white streak from approximately basal 3/5 and distal 1/4 parallel obliquely outward to lower margin of cell, edged with some black scales; tornal spot black, diffused; apex with a few dark brown and black scales, forming a diffused dark apical spot; cilia yellow. Hindwing and cilia grey.

Male genitalia ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 7‒12 ). Uncus broad at base, narrowed to middle; distal half distinctly slender, curved ventrad, hooked apically. Gnathos broad lingulate, about same length as uncus, with dense microtrichiae on distal 2/5. Valva with basal 3/5 almost parallel-sided, distal 2/5 narrowed to narrowly rounded apex; costa concave at base, convex medially, with a densely setose, overlapped triangular area on distal half. Sacculus with basal 2/5 uniformly wide, distal 3/5 narrowed, produced to a small triangular apical process directing upward, with dense setae medially. Saccus as long as gnathos, wide at base, narrowed to pointed apex. Juxta shortly connected at base; lateral arms with basal 3/5 elongate ovate, distal 2/5 thorn-shaped, narrowly rounded at apex, reaching anterior 2/5 of tegumen apically. Aedeagus straight, longer than valva, with a curved, spine-shaped apical process; cornutus very small, thornlike, located medially.

Female unknown.

Distribution. Thailand.

Etymology. The specific epithet of this new species is derived from the Latin latus and and the term gnathus, referring to the broad gnathos of the male genitalia.
