Redescription. Head: Almost black with weak golden lustre. Eyes prominent, from clypeus to beyond posterior margin of eyes, deep triangular impression, covered by dfp, in bottom some metallic golden reflection and fine furrow. Medioposterior border of eye without any marked ridge. Antennae: Dark, first antennomere dark blue with metallic lustre, following dark brown to black, second small rounded, 3 and 4 strait, fourth 25% longer than third, following segments triangular, longer than broad. Pronotum: Trapezoid, L/W=0,6, widening towards posterior angles, dark, sparsely punctured, in bright light reflecting metallic golden-cupreous lustre. Furrow widening to base medially. At each side from anterior-lateral angle an impression with dfp, and yellow pulverulent, widening to just before posterior-lateral angle. Scutellum: Small, broader than long with fine punctures. Elytra: L/W=2,3, blue-black with faint metallic lustre. Elytron poorly marked punctuate-striate medially, four impressions with dfp, first just posterior anterior border between suture and humerus, next two are merged just posterior humerus reaching epipleura and centrally third punctuated-striated row. Last impression with dfp at beginning of attenuation to apex. Latero-posterior border strongly denticulate. Legs: Femur blue-black as tibia in first ¾; posterior ¼ of tibia and tarsi dark brown except claw joints, shaft blue, claws brown.

Male not seen.

Distribution: Iles du Sud-Est. Rossel I.

Flight period: The lectotype and paralectotype specimens were collected in April. The specimen from I.F.T.A. (UN 1206) was collected in February.

Remarks: Metataenia hudsoni sp. nov. is very much like Metataenia capitata but differs as in Table 2.
