Licontinia recurvata View in CoL , sp. nov.

( Plate 2A View PLATE 2 , Figs. 71–77)

Length. 7.20 mm., female unknown

External morphology. Medium sized, robust species. General color concolorous black except for narrow, transverse yellow band near anterior margin of crown, very narrow, light brown line on lateral borders of mesonotum ( Plate 2A View PLATE 2 ); face black except yellow markings above antennal sockets. Head narrower than pronotum, anterior margin broadly rounded; crown broader than width of eyes, slightly produced distally, lateral margins nearly parallel, disk flat, depressed; pronotum slightly longer than crown, surface bullated; mesonotum large, twice as long as pronotum; forewings long, broad, 3 anteapical cells present, outer one closed; clypeus long, narrow, lateral margins broadly convex with prominent median longitudinal carina; clypellus short, about 1/3 as long as clypeus, narrow, apex expanded.

Male genitalia. Pygofer in lateral view very narrow, caudodorsal lobe short, truncate, caudoventral process long, narrow (Fig. 71); right subgenital plate very long, narrow, setaceous in distal half on outer lateral margin (Fig. 72); style shorter than aedeagus, apophysis needlelike (Figs. 73); aedeagus long, tubular, very narrow in lateral view, broad subbasally, narrowed distally in ventral view, several recurved setae along middle of shaft, gonopore subbasal (Figs. 74, 75); connective broadly Y-shaped, arms narrow, stem narrow, with apparent membrane between arms (Fig. 76); dorsal connective strap shaped, broad in basal half (Figs 74, 77).

Material examined. Holotype male. PANAMA: Bocas del Toro, Rio Changuinola , 9º17’N – 82º32’W, 24–27 Jan 1910, D. Engleman ( NMNH). GoogleMaps

Etymology. The name is descriptive for the recurved setae on the aedeagal shaft.

Remarks. This species is similar to L. introducens in some genitalia features and can be distinguished by the narrower aedeagal shaft (Figs. 74, 75), caudodorsal lobe on the pygofer and narrower caudoventral process (Fig. 71). The pronotum does not have the yellow transverse band on the pronotum that is present in L. introducens .
