Acrobates Desmarest, 1817 View in CoL
Acrobates Desmarest, 1817:405 View in CoL . Type species Didelphis pygmaea Shaw, 1794 , by monotypy.

Cercoptenus Gloger, 1841:85 . Type species Didelphis pygmaea Shaw, 1794 , by monotypy.
CONTEXT AND CONTENT. Order Diprotodontia View in CoL , suborder Phalangeriformes View in CoL , family Acrobatidae View in CoL . As currently understood, the family Acrobatidae View in CoL includes 3 arboreal species, the feathertailed glider ( Acrobates pygmaeus View in CoL ), the broad-toed feathertail glider ( A. frontalis ), and the feather-tailed possum ( Distoechurus pennatus View in CoL ). The latter is endemic to New Guinea and although it has a distichous tail similar to Acrobates View in CoL , it lacks a patagium. A. frontalis has only recently been recognized (Jackson and Schouten 2012; Aplin 2013), based on the resurrection of a previously described form ( Dromicia frontalis De Vis 1887 ).
