Distribution. WesternAtlantic—USA (North Carolina, Florida), Gulf of Mexico, Honduras, Colombia, Antilles, and Brazil (Amapá, Pará, Maranhão, Piauí, Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Bahia, São Paulo) ( Williams 1965, 1984; Powers 1977; Lemaitre 1981; Keith 1985; Abele & Kim 1986; Barreto et al. 1993; Mantelatto & Fransozo 2000; Melo & Veloso 2005; Coelho et al. 2008; Felder et al. 2009).

Remarks. Previous records in São Paulo include Ubatuba ( Mantelatto & Fransozo 2000 as Xanthidae sp.; Alves et al. 2012a, b and Mantelatto et al. 2016a as Micropanope nuttingi ). The reclassification and taxonomic name change to Williamstimpsonia were proposed by Števčić (2011). Sequences accession number (GenBank): CCDB 5270—16S ( MF490190 ), COI ( MF490096 ) (Mantelatto et al. 2018a—as Micropanope nuttingi ); CCDB 5271—16S ( MT849293 ) (present study).
