Material examined. None.

Distribution. Western Atlantic—USA (North Carolina to Georgia), Bahamas, Gulf of Mexico, Antilles, and Brazil (Amapá, Paraíba, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul) ( Rathbun 1901, 1933; Goeke & Heard 1984; Williams 1984; Coelho & Ramos-Porto 1986; Melo et al. 1998; Coelho et al. 2008; Felder et al. 2009; Melo 2010).

Remarks. This species was previously recorded to São Paulo state, but the locality was not mentioned (Coelho & Ramos-Porto 1986). Specimens found from 51 to 172m (Coelho & Ramos-Porto 1986), and in the literature available the number of individuals captured is low.
