The Protohermes sabahensis View in CoL species–group
Diagnosis. Species in this genus have yellow to yellowish brown heads and most specimens have a pair of black markings posterolaterally. The posterior ocelli are close to or are only moderately separated from median ocellus. The wings are hyaline or darker, with several whitish or yellowish markings. The male tenth tergum is flattened, about 2x longer than the ninth tergum, and twisted inward with the distal portion more or less broadened. The male ninth gonostylus is slender, unguiform, and bald with its tip slightly curved. The male tenth sternum is arched and the dorsomedial process feebly to well developed, its lateral lobe being digitiform and densely covered with setae ventrally.
Remarks. This species–group appears to be closely related to the group of the remaining four eastern Malaysian Protohermes species, P. bellulus , P. d e c o l o r, P. dichrous , and P. u n i f o r m i s, in having a similarly slender male ninth gonostylus and a flattened, twisted male tenth tergum, but it can be easily distinguished from the latter four species by the relatively short male tenth tergum with its distal portion broadened. In the other species, the male tenth tergum is at least 3x as long as the male ninth tergum and its distal portion is not broadened.
