14. Syzygium cyanophyllum (P.C.Kanjilal & Das) Raizada (1948: 336) View in CoL .
= Eugenia cyanophylla P.C. Kanjilal & Das (1937: 12) View in CoL . Lectotype (designated here):— INDIA. North Cachar Hills [Dima Hasao District], Assam, U. Kanjilal 6786 (ASSAM). Remaining syntype:— U. Kanjilal 601P (ASSAM).
Distribution:— India [Assam].
Notes:—The protologue cites two specimens, “ Assam Herbarium Sheet No. 601P and No. 6786”. ASSAM is the herbarium of the Botanical Survey of India, Eastern Regional Centre, Shillong, now in the state of Meghalaya. Only No. 6786 is listed in the register of type specimens at Shillong so it is chosen as lectotype.
The species possibly is known only from the type collections. It was named in Eugenia but transferred by Raizada (1948) to Syzygium without any comment. The description in the protologue suggests the species could have possible affinities with Syzygium polypetalum (Wall.) Merrill & L.M. Perry (1941: 125) based on the narrowly oblong-lanceolate or lanceolate leaves, tapering at the apices, and 1–2 cm long flowers. We retain the taxon as distinct until further investigations can be made.
