Balakrishnan (1982 View in CoL [1980]: 174). Type: “In India orientali” Eugenia laurifolia Roxburgh View in CoL Catalogue Number 92. syn. nov.

Distribution:— India [Meghalaya] and Bangladesh.

Notes:—When Candolle (1828: 287) published Jambosa laurifolia he listed Eugenia javanica Lamarck (1789: 200) as a synonym, rendering his name illegitimate. Candolle did cite Roxburgh’s name Eugenia laurifolia from his Hortus Bengalensis (1814: 92) but the name is a nomen nudum there; it was not validly published until his Flora Indica (1832: 489). The name is, therefore, predated by Eugenia bifaria Wallich (1831: 47) and the combination Syzygium bifarium (Wall.) Veldkamp is now the correct name for this taxon.
