21. Syzygium kurzii (Duthie ex Kurz) N.P. Balakrishnan (1982 View in CoL [1980]: 174).

= Eugenia cerasiflora Kurz (1873: 233) View in CoL , nom. illeg., non Miquel 1850. = Eugenia kurzii Duthie ex Kurz (1877: 68) View in CoL . Type citation: “Martaban (Etiam in montibus Sikkim Himalaya, Khasya, etc.)”. Lectotype (designated here):— INDIA. Sikkim, Herb. Sulp. Kurz s.n. (K! [barcode K000793904]).

Distribution:— India [Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Sikkim, West Bengal], Bhutan, Myanmar, Nepal and Thailand; 0–1500 m.

Notes:—No type was designated, but the location Martaban (=Mottama, Burma / Myanmar) was listed first in the protologue. Duthie (1878 –9: 478) cited collections by Kurz from Pegu and Martaban, but no specimen from Martaban has been located. Since a Kurz specimen from Martaban cannot be found, the Kurz specimen located at K from Sikkim was chosen as the lectotype. We consider this specimen to be original material that would have been available when the species was originally described.
