Type species: Brasilaxia morretesi Théry, 1935: 294 (orig. designation; synonym of B. costifera (Obenberger, 1913)) .

Subsequent references: Bellamy 2003: 68; Bílý 2000: 111; Cobos 1956: 103 (as synonym of Cylindrophora Solier, 1849 ).

The genus was originally monotypic and two additional species were described by Obenberger (1958). Both of these were later synonymized by Cobos (1971): B. olavei Obenberger, 1958 with Cylindrophora iricolor ( Olave,1953) and B. jacobi Obenberger, 1958 with C. mariae Cobos, 1956 . Subsequently, C. iricolor was synonymized by Cobos (1975) with C. oyarcei ( Germain & Kerremans, 1906) .
