Eupoa maculata Peng & Kim 1997: 195 , figs 2A–C (female holotype from Hainan, deposited at Department of Biology, Hebei Normal University, not examined).

Material examined: 1 male, 2 females, Mt. Jingfengling (18°44.415′N, 108°51.802′E, alt. 819 m), Ledong County, Hainan Island, China, 16 May 2011, leg. Yuanye Zhou.

Diagnosis. Male differs from I. squamata sp. nov. in having embolic apophysis distally, and compound teminal apophysis with a membranaceous apophysis medially ( Figs 163, 165 View FIGURES 163 – 166 ; 223, 226); from other species by the shape of transverse patellar apophysis ( Figs 161 View FIGURES 161 – 162 , 165 View FIGURES 163 – 166 ).

Description. Male ( Figs 161–166 View FIGURES 161 – 162 View FIGURES 163 – 166 ): Total length 1.7, PL 0.95, PW 0.8, OL 0.75, OW 1.2. Eye sizes: AME 0.25, ALE 0.15, PME 0.03, PLE 0.15, AER 0.8, PER 0.75, EFL 0.55. Legs: I 1.6 (0.5, 0.25, 0.35, 0.3, 0.2), II 1.5 (0.45, 0.25, 0.3, 0.3, 0.2), III 1.35 (0.4, 0.2, 0.25, 0.3, 0.2), IV 1.9 (0.65, 0.25, 0.45, 0.3, 0.25); formula: 4123.

Dorsal prosoma light brown, with dark sides, covered with brown and white setae. Clypeus height 0.08, Clypeus gray brown, covered with brown setae. Fovea, cervicle and radial grooves unclear. Chelicerae small and yellow, with two promarginal teeth, retromargin with four teeth. Endites, labium and sternum yellow. Leg I with balck longitudinal stripes, Legs II to IV with black segments. Metatarsus I with three pairs of ventral spines. Opisthosoma cylindrical, dark brown, with two pairs of pale yellow spots, following one yellow latitudinal stripe; anterior and posterior margins covered with long white and brown setae; ventral opisthosoma yellow with dark margin. Spinnerets light yellow, anterior spinnerets shorter and stronger than posterior ones. Palp ( Figs 161–165 View FIGURES 161 – 162 View FIGURES 163 – 166 ): Patellar apophysis palmated and bent. Compound teminal apophysis broad and sclerotized, with scales distally. Embolus twisted and bifurcated, origining from the bottom of bulbus. Seminal duct visible in ventral view.

Distribution. China (Hainan).

Remark. Peng & Kim (1997) described Eupoa maculata as a new species to science according to two females collected from Mt. Jianfengling, Ledong County, Hainan Island. They assigned it to the genus Eupoa due to the body form. The type species of Eupoa has median apophysis and varying tibial apophysis on male palp, and separated and long delicate copulatory ducts in female vulva. The merged copulatory ducts and the lack of median apophysis suggested that Eupoa maculata Peng & Kim, 1997 might actually be better placed in Insula . We examined specimens of E.maculata collected from Mt. Jianfengling. Considering the account and illustrations in the original paper, we transfer it to Insula .
