Type Material. Holotype (male): Mutare , Zimbabwe. [labels: TYPUS//RHODESIE Umtali II­1969 Melsetter 1700m R. MUSSARD// Prép. Micr. No 740218// E. Janssens det., 1974 Coelometopon mussardi n. sp. //DIGITAL IMAGE captured 2004 P. D. Perkins]; deposited in the MHNG.

Diagnosis. Similar to C. granulatum , but with slightly more robust body and more widely spaced granules on the elytral margin. Reliable identifications will require study of the male genitalia (Figs. 40, 43).

Description. Size (length/width, mm x 100;) holotype: body 250/111, head 39/66, pronotum 59/92, elytra 155/111. Dorsum piceus, legs dark brown. Maxillary palpus slightly shorter than width of anterior margin of clypeus, last three palpomeres subequal in length, last two subequal in maximum width. Mentum weakly produced apicomedially; depressed on each side of midline near base. Clypeus anterior angles with setae subequal in length to setal clusters on adjacent area of labrum. Labral lobes small, triangular in ventral view. Granules nearly uniform on base of clypeus, frons and pronotum, much finer and sparser on shining apical 1/2 of clypeus.

Pronotum with sides angulate at midlength, strongly emarginate in front of and straight behind angulation; lateral depressions markedly convex.

Elytra with exceedingly fine and rather sparse micropore ground sculpture; all intervals with unilinear row of granules; 2nd, 4th and 6th intervals raised only very slightly more, in sections, than odd­numbered intervals; 8th widened, forming pseudoepipleuron.

Prosternum with very low midlongitudinal carina. Mesosternal process small elevation. Metasternal disc densely, moderately fine punctate and setose, with oval depression posteriorly. Female unknown.

Aedeagus length 0.58 mm; mainpiece with two ridged processes, proximal much larger than distal; gonopore process very short; membranous process relatively large, width ca. 2x and length 3x that of gonopore process (Fig. 43). Holotype aedeagus flattened and distorted by slide mounting.

Distribution. Currently known only from the type locality in Zimbabwe (Fig. 87).
