COMMENTS: In the original description, Hartert provided unique data for the holotype of suluensis and measurements for more than one specimen. Guillemard (1885a: 259), reporting on his Sulu collection, listed three males, two females and one sex? from Sulu Island. Three males, and two with sex unrecorded came to AMNH with the Roth schild Collection. Guillemard (1889: 198–200) recounted his bird-collecting activities during his first stay at Maimbun (spelled Meimbun in the book) during which these specimens were collected.
