Aspicilia owaniana Hue (1910: 55)
Type (lectotype, designated here):— JAPAN. Owani, prope Aomori, July 1899, R. P. Faurie 1225 ( LE L-7516!, isolectotype BM 001107782 [digital photograph!]).
Aspicilia owaniana was placed by Hue into the same group with A. verrucigera . The spores of the former species are (17.0) 18.9–[19.3]–19.7 (21.0) × (9.0) 10.0–[10.4]–10.8 (13.0) μm and conidia are (15.0) 16.6–[17.0]–17.4 (21.0) μm, which agree with those of A. verrucigera . The specimen differs from the type of A. verrucigera by its thicker, lighter and more continuous thallus ( Fig. 1F View FIGURE 1 ), however similarly looking specimens of A. verrucigera , known from Scandinavia, are kept in UPS, H and LE.
