49. Rhipicephalus masseyi Nuttall & Warburton, 1908 View in CoL .

Afrotropical: 1) Democratic Republic of the Congo, 2) Malawi, 3) Mozambique, 4) Tanzania, 5) Zambia (Walker et al. 2020).

Walker et al. (2000) stated that considerable difficulties attend the identification of Rhipicephalus masseyi . These authors reported that the description of this species by Theiler (1947) invites confusion with adults of Rhipicephalus muehlensi and Rhipicephalus attenuatus , a synonym of Rhipicephalus lunulatus , and that the nymph described as Rhipicephalus masseyi by Theiler (1947) is, in fact, the nymph of Rhipicephalus maculatus . Rhipicephalus masseyi has been confused with Rhipicephalus kochi , and its morphological separation from Rhipicephalus ziemanni is difficult. Moreover, alleged records of Rhipicephalus masseyi from South Africa were later re-identified as Rhipicephalus muehlensi , as discussed in Walker et al. (2000), who also regarded Angolan records of Rhipicephalus masseyi as erroneous. For these reasons, information concerning Rhipicephalus masseyi published prior to the study of Walker et al. (2000) is not included in this analysis.
