Redescription. Female (n= 10). Body whitish, vermiform, 227–300, 60–92 thick. Gnathosoma 20–22, projecting obliquely downwards; chelicerae 15–17, dorsal palp genual setae d 7–9, simple. Prodorsal shield 29–35, semicircle, with a very short frontal lobe 1–2 over base of chelicerae; smooth. Tubercles of scapular setae sc on rear shield margin. Scapular setae sc 32–36, directed backwards. Legs with all usual segments and setae present. Leg I 31–35, femur 8–10, basiventral femoral setae bv 16–18, genu 4–5, antaxial genual setae l″ 27–37, tibia 7–8, paraxial tibial setae l ′ located at ½–? from dorsal base, 7–9, very fine, tarsus 7–8, solenidion ω 8–9, distally rounded, slightly curved, empodium simple, 7–8, 5-rayed. Some specimens with asymmetrical terminal rays in length. Leg II 27–31, femur 8–9, basiventral femoral setae bv 12–16, genu 4–5, antaxial genual setae l″ 12–15 very fine, tibia 4–5, tarsus 6–7, solenidion ω 8–10, distally rounded, slightly curved, empodium simple, 6–8, 5-rayed. Some specimens with asymmetrical terminal rays in length. Coxae I and II smooth; anterolateral setae on coxisternum I, setae 1b 16–22, proximal setae on coxisternum I, setae 1a 40–42, proximal setae on coxisternum II, setae 2a 45–57. Prosternal apodeme 7–10. Coxigenital area with 3–4 semiannuli with very faint microtubercles. Opisthosoma with 54–81 dorsal annuli, 55–70 ventral annuli. Dorsal and ventral annuli microtuberculate. Posterior 6 dorsal annuli with minute microtubercles. Triangular microtubercles pointed close to rear annular margin, except for 5–6 ventral annuli near anal lobes, which are elongate, linear and pointed. Caudal lobe normal in size and shape. Setae c2 32–35, on ventral annulus 10–11; setae d 81–95, on ventral annulus 20–24; setae e 62–74, on ventral annulus 30–38; setae f 27–32, on ventral annulus 49–63, or 4–5 from rear, all very fine towards apex. Setae h2 80–100; setae h1 4–5. Genital plate 14–19, 15 wide, genital coverflap smooth. Setae 3a 22–25.

Male (n= 2). Similar to female, 210–242, 70–72 thick. Gnathosoma 20–24, projecting obliquely downwards; chelicerae 17–19, dorsal palp genual setae d 6–8, simple. Prodorsal shield 32–35 with a very short frontal lobe 1–2, half circle, smooth. Tubercles of scapular setae sc on rear shield margin. Scapular setae sc 26–27, directed backwards. Leg I 26–30, femur 8–9, basiventral femoral setae bv 12–13, very fine, genu 4–5, antaxial genual setae l″ 23–25, tibia 6–7, paraxial tibial setae l ′ located at ¾–? from dorsal base, 8, very fine, tarsus 6–7, solenidion ω 7– 8, slightly curved, distally rounded, empodium simple, 6, 5-rayed. Leg II 23–27, femur 8–10, basiventral femoral setae bv 12–13, very fine, genu 3–4, antaxial genual setae l″ 10–12, very fine, tibia 5–6, tarsus 5–6, solenidion ω 7– 8, subequal with solenidion ω on leg I, slightly curved, distally rounded, empodium simple, 6, 5-rayed. Some specimens with asymmetrical terminal rays in length. Coxisternae I and II smooth. Setae 1b 14–15, setae 1a 27, setae 2a 37–40, very fine. Prosternal apodeme 7. Coxigenital area with 4–6 semiannuli with minute microtubercles. Opisthosoma with 70–73 dorsal, 64–66 ventral annuli. Microtuberculate dorsal and ventral annuli. Posterior 7 dorsal annuli with minute microtubercles. Triangular microtubercles on rear annular margin minute, pointed, except for 5 ventral annuli of anal lobes, which are elongate, linear and pointed. Caudal lobe normal in size and shape. Setae c 2 22–25, on ventral annulus 11–13; setae d 55–72, on ventral annulus 24–25; setae e 52–58, on ventral annulus 37–38; setae f 26–30, on ventral annulus 59–61, or 5 from rear. Setae h2 61–65; setae h1 3–5. Genitalia 11–15, 15 wide, posteriorly with minute granules, setae 3a 15–17.

Nymph (n= 3). Whitish, vermiform, 195–202, 61–72 thick. Gnathosoma 20, chelicerae 15–17. Prodorsal shield 29–32, half circle. Tubercles of scapular setae sc on rear shield margin, diverging, scapular setae sc 19–22, directed to rear. Opisthosoma with 54–57 dorsal, 46–51 ventral annuli. Dorsal annuli with minute microtubercles like dots. Setae c 2 15–20, on ventral annulus 10–11; setae d 25–33, on ventral annulus 19–22; setae e 26–27, on ventral annulus 27–30; setae f 13–19, on ventral annulus 42–46, or 4–5 from rear. Setae h 2 26–35; setae h1 3–4. Setae 3a 9–12. Larva (first nymph) with scapular setae sc pointing up and forward.

Host plant. Boxthorn or European matrimony-vine or European wolfberry, Lycium europaeum L. ( Solanaceae ).

Relation to the host plant. The mite was found in all stages of development in the minute leaf galls. The galls of 1-3 mm in diameter were yellowish then greyish violet in colour and projected from both sides of the leaf.

Iñigo Sánchez, 24 May 2014, deposited in the Department of Pest Management Development and Coordination , Directorate of Plant Protection , Soil Conservation and Agri-environment, National Food Chain Safety Office, Budapest, Hungary . Current geographical distribution. According to the Fauna Europaea database, A. eucricotes has been recorded from Spain, Canary Islands, Sardinia and Sicily (de Lillo 2012).
