Rhyncadicrus n. gen. Reis & Navia
Diptilomiopidae : Rhyncaphytoptinae ( Figs. 3 View FIGURE 3 & 4 View FIGURE 4 )
Diagnosis. Rhyncadicrus n. gen. is a Rhyncaphytoptinae mite with a prominent, deeply-emarginated frontal lobe; palp distal segments (palp, tibia and tarsus) distinctively elongated; palp tarsus with distal setae; prodorsal shield tubercles and scapular seta (sc) present, ahead of rear shield margin, tubercles with transversal bases directing sc backwards; coxal seta I (1b) absent; tibial seta I (l') present; genual seta (l") II and femoral seta (bv) I and II absent; opisthosoma with submedian ridges convergent and fading above the level of ventral seta f. Among the Rhyncaphytoptinae , it is closest to Chakrabartiella Amrine & Stasny 1994 ; Sakthirhynchus Umapathy & Mohanasundaram 1999 and Hyborhinus Mohanasundaram 1986 , in sharing the absence of coxal seta 1b. However, it differs from Sakthirhynchus in the presence of the prodorsal shield tubercles and scapular seta (sc) (absent in Sakthirhynchus ); from Hyborhinus in the absence of femoral seta (bv) I and II (both present in Hyborhinus ); and from Chakrabartiella in the absence of genual seta (l") II (present in Chakrabartiella ). The anterior frontal lobe, deeply emarginated, in the new genus is similar to that of Acadicrus Keifer 1965 and Neoepitrimerus Kuang, Li & Shen 1994 , both genera belong in the Eriophyidae , Phyllocoptinae .
Type species. Rhyncadicrus asperulus n.sp.
Etymology. The generic designation is a composition of “Rhynca”, from the subfamily Rhyncaphytoptinae to which the new genus belongs, and “ dicrus ”, from the Greek dikros that means forked, which refers to the deeply, emarginated frontal lobe.
