Ulidia sp. near melampodia Loew

Ulidia melampodia Zaitzev 1982: 426 (nec Loew) (misidentification).

Diagnosis. Similar to other Ulidia species ( U. melampodia Loew , U. salonikiensis Hennig , U. kandybinae Zaitzev , U. nigricubitalis Zaitzev and U. nigricubitalis Zaitzev ) with brown subapical spot and pterostigma, differing from them by combination of black face, antennae and most of frons, dark brown costal cell and entirely black legs.

Material examined. China: "Ta Ching" [Gansu: Dajing?], 29 VII 1908, 1 specimen (Kozlov) ( ZISP). Kyrgizia: Over 40 specimens from various localities, 2 specimens dissected ( SIZK).

Distribution. China (Gansu), Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan.

Notes. This species is similar to U. melampodia Loew in the wing pattern, black tarsi and long densely setulose vertical plate. However, the latter species has reddish yellow face, antenna, parafacial, large part of gena and brown calypter. It is known only from male and female syntypes from Alai Mountains ( Kyrgyzstan) and certainly is not conspecific with " U. melampodia " sensu Zaitzev (Kameneva, unpublished data). This is apparently an undescribed species, but because of limited material from China, we leave its formal description pending for the revision of the genus Ulidia in the world.
