32. Coccotrypes papuanus (Eggers) View in CoL

Dendrurgus papuanus Eggers, 1923: 148 View in CoL .

Distribution: India, Indonesia (Java, Sumatra), Malaysia (E. & W.), New Guinea, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam. The previous records from Taiwan ( Browne 1980a, 1986) are from timber imported to Japan. The presence of the species in Taiwan can now be confirmed. [4]

New records: Nantou, Neimoupu , funnel trap, 29.vi.2004, 28.xii.2004 (C. S. Lin) (3); Taichung, Gu Guan, flight intercept trap, 28.iii.2006 (J. F. Tsai) (1) .

Hosts: Polyphagous ( Browne 1961; Wood & Bright 1992).

Biology: The species normally breeds in fruits and seeds, and not under bark ( Browne 1961). The specimens recorded by Browne (1980a, 1986) were obtained from the tree fern, Cyathea sp. (Cyatheaceae) , but it seems unlikely that they were breeding there.
