46. Hyorrhynchus lewisi Blandford View in CoL

Hyorrhynchus lewisi Blandford, 1894a: 60 View in CoL .

Distribution: Japan, Russia (Kuril Is.), Taiwan. [2a]

Hosts: Recorded from 5 species in 4 different families ( Aceraceae , Cornaceae , Fagaceae , Ulmaceae ). Presumably polyphagous, although apparently confined to Bothrocaryum (Cornaceae) in the Kuril Islands ( Krivolutskaya 1973).

Biology: The biology of this ambrosia beetle is described by Krivolutskaya (1973).

Taxonomy: Schedl (1962) incorrectly synonymised H. drescheri Eggers , and H. granulatus Eggers with this species, and this synonymy is repeated in Wood & Bright (1992). The latter species were described from Indonesia (Java) and are distinct from H. lewisi (M.Knižek, personal communication, 2009).
