Distribution: Scattered records from the Afrotropical, Neotropical and Oriental regions. Recorded from bamboo imported from Taiwan to Japan by Browne (1984 as Hypothenemus sundaensis (Eggers)) . [6]

Hosts: Polyphagous. Breeding in a variety of stems (including bamboo and rattans) and seeds ( Browne 1961). Remarks: Browne’ s (1984) record is accepted because the species has not otherwise been recorded in Japan.
