Xyleborus hirtus Hagedorn, 1904: 126 .

Xyleborus taiwanensis Browne, 1980b: 386 . n. syn.

Distribution: India, Myanmar, Taiwan. Wood and Bright (1992) add China (Fujian). We have seen no published records from there, but it is likely that the species does occur. The species is known to occur in Thailand and Vietnam (RAB, unpublished records). [3]

Hosts: Recorded from four species in four different families ( Lauraceae , Magnoliaceae , Rutaceae , Symplocaceae ) ( Wood & Bright 1992), and from Zelkova formosana (Ulmaceae) originating from Taiwan by Browne (1980 as X.taiwanensis ).

Taxonomy: The species was placed in the genus Cyclorhipidion Hagedorn by Wood and Bright (1992), but transferred to Anisandrus Ferrari by Hulcr et al. (2007a). The holotype of Xyleborus taiwanensis has been examined (NHML), and compared with numerous specimens of A. hirtus identified by Eggers, Schedl, and others (NHML, NMW), and a paratype of Xyleborus hirtuosus Beeson (NMW), a synonym of A. hirtus ( Wood 1989) .
