Distribution: From India through Southeast Asia to Indonesia, New Guinea and Australia. New to Taiwan. [4] New records: Nantou, Hui Son, 9.iii.2007, 29.iv.2007, 18.v.2007 (L. Y. Liu) (3).

Hosts: Polyphagous ( Wood & Bright 1992).

Biology: Browne (1961) and Kalshoven (1959) describe the gallery system.

Taxonomy: The holotype of Xyleborus artestriatus is lost ( Wood & Bright 1992), but we have examined the holotype of its synonym, X. laticollis Blandford (NHML), and specimens determined by Browne, Schedl and others (NHML, NMW, RAB), and have compared them with the holotype and paratypes of X. beaveri (NHML, RAB) . The type series of X. beaveri was separated from X. artestriatus on slight differences in shape and declivital armature, and we do not consider it specifically distinct from the latter species. Accordingly, it is here synonymised with X. artestriatus .
