Identification. Colonial helophytes with strongly aromatic vegetative tissues. Leaf blades very variable, ranging from linear-lanceolate to broadly sagittate. Spathe with a marked constriction between the lower part and the limb; entire limb persistent into ripe fruit; mature fruits small, yellow-green.

Distribution and ecology. Widespread. Helophytes in fresh swamp and shaded forest.
