Melanodes contains one southern Australian species that occurs in open eucalypt forest. The eggs of this species bear some resemblance to those of Mnesampela Guest (especially M. heliochrysa Lower) in general egg shape, the mesh­like reticulum of the moderately broad cell walls and small aeropylar openings.
