‘ Clavatula’ sp.
Clavatula concatenata turritacuta Sacco, 1904 — Steininger 1973: 437, pl. 8, fig. 7 [non ‘Clavatula’ turritacuta ( Sacco, 1890) ].
Discussion. Steininger (1973) illustrated a medium-sized slender biconic Clavatulidae from Várpalota ( Hungary). The picture shows subcylindrical, smooth early teleoconch whorls with beaded shoulder. Penultimate and last whorls are conical, faintly concave with beaded shoulder and beaded basal spiral cord, coinciding with weak angulation. Base high, slowly contracting with weak peribasal spiral cord (SL: 26.5 mm, MD: 8.9 mm). This specimen was identified by Steininger (1973) as Clavatula turritacuta Sacco, 1890 , which was originally described from the Burdigalian or Langhian of Sciolze in Italy. The Italian species differs considerably in its much higher spire, the much smaller size and lacks a beaded basal spiral cord (see Bellardi 1877, pl. 6, fig. 8).
We have not been able to trace this specimen.
Distribution in Central Paratethys. Karpatian (early Miocene): Pannonian Basin: Várpalota ( Hungary) ( Steininger, 1973); given as Ottnangian in Steiniger (1973), but this locality is of Karpatian age ( Mandic 2003).
