Revised description. Shell solid, medium-sized, broad fusiform, with strongly coronate conical spire; apical angle ~43°. Protoconch not preserved. Teleoconch of up to nine whorls (earliest whorls not preserved). Early teleoconch whorls flat-sided with broad smooth subsutural cord, mid-whorl bearing very narrow thread, suprasutural cord with spiral row of large beads. Sculpture changes abruptly on fifth to sixth whorl; subsutural collar broad and raised, developing widely spaced, axially elongated tubercles, pointed adapically, mid-portion concave, central cord disappears, suprasutural row of axially elongated opisthocline tubercles. Entire surface covered by narrow flattened cords separated by narrow grooves. Suture narrowly but deeply impressed, strongly undulating below suprasutural tubercles. Last whorl 60% of total height. Subsutural collar broad, bearing 12 tubercles, pointed adapically. Subsutural ramp narrow, concave, delimited by strongly tuberculose shoulder, convex below, moderately constricted at base. Siphonal fasciole strongly swollen, twisted, separated from columellar callus by pseudumbilical chink. Sculpture of five tuberculose primary spiral cords, weakening abapically, tubercles aligned axially forming poorly defined riblets, with cords of secondary and tertiary strength covering entire surface as well as primary cords. Axial growth lines cut the secondary spiral sculpture giving them beaded appearance. Aperture moderately wide, ovate. Outer lip not thickened, smooth within. Anal sinus moderately wide and shallow, asymmetrically U-shaped, with apex below subsutural collar. Siphonal canal short, wide, bent slightly to left, notched at tip. Columella weakly excavated in upper third, weakly twisted below, smooth. Columellar callus weakly thickened, forming narrow columellar callus, parietal portion not developed.

Discussion. ‘ Clavatula apolloniae is reminiscent of member of the genus Granulatocincta nov. gen. and plots close to species of Granulatocincta in the nMDS ( Fig. 42 View FIGURE 42 ), but the mid-whorl cord is replaced by a spiral thread. This species is characterized by its peculiar spiral sculpture of close-set flat spiral cords with deep interspaces, which also overrun the spines and nodes. It is the only Paratethyan Clavatulidae species with five primary spirals below the ramp. Hoernes & Auinger (1891) described this species twice as ‘ Clavatula apolloniae and as ‘ C. ’ reginae . The difference between the two is only the slightly more prominent sculpture of nodes on the base of the holotype of ‘C.’ apolloniae and the slightly smaller size of ‘ C. ’ reginae . Both share identical sculpture, and both were collected at the same locality (Lăpugiu de Sus). Therefore, we consider them to be subjective synonyms, and as first revisers we chose ‘ Clavatula apolloniae as name for this species.

This species is reminiscent of Olegia agathae ( Hoernes & Auinger, 1891) , Granulatocincta angelae ( Hoernes & Auinger, 1891) and ‘ C. ’ veronicae ( Hoernes & Auinger, 1891) , which are all found at the same locality. The spiral sculpture composed of five primary cords below the ramp distinguishes ‘ C. ’ apolloniae from these species. In addition, the short siphonal canal separates it from ‘ C.’ veronicae and O. agathae . Granulatocincta angelae has a more constricted base.

Bałuk (2003) reported this species from Korytnica ( Poland), but the spiral sculpture of the illustrated specimens resembles rather that of ‘ Clavatula czarnockii ( Bałuk, 2003) and G. schreibersi ( Hörnes, 1854) .

Paleoenvironment. Probably middle or outer neritic environments ( Bałuk & Radwański 1977).

Distribution in Central Paratethys. Badenian (middle Miocene):? Korytnica Basin: Korytnica ( Poland) ( Bałuk 2003); Făget Basin: Lăpugiu de Sus ( Romania) ( Hoernes & Auinger 1891).
