Remarks

Eusirus antarcticus Thomson, 1880 View in CoL has an extensive Antarctic and sub-Antarctic distribution, especially in southern South America. The most northerly record in the Argentine continental shelf represents a new record from the Southwest Atlantic. Thurston (1974b) pointed out that the serrate posterior margin of the third epimeron was probably a condition of the animal’s age and he established various length ranges from different localities that showed presence or absence of this feature. The present specimens found associated with M. pyrifera in the Beagle Channel have a size range from 4 to 10 mm, and all of them display serrate posterior margin of third epimeron. Arnaud (1974) reported this species inhabiting holdfasts of M. pyrifera from the Kerguelen Islands.
