Specimens examined:

Holotype: 3. St. Lucia, Natal 12/86, Werner leg. (CRG). Paratype: S-Afrika, Natal, St. Lucia Creek, 12/1986 leg. Werner (1 3., CRG).

Length: 9.2mm – 10.7mm (2 specimens).

Head: Red-brown; finely and diffusely punctate.

Antennae: Red-brown; not reaching base of pronotum when laid alongside; A5–A10 serrate.

Pronotum: Red-brown with some darker spots; anterior half subparallel, conspicuously constricted towards base; very finely and diffusely punctate; length:width ratio 1.37:1. Scutellum: Dark red-brown.

Elytra: Red-brown, each elytron with a faint white lateral spot in the basal third and a faint white transverse fascia reaching neither lateral margins nor suture; diameter of punctures larger than interstices, impunctate towards apex; length:width ratio 2.47:1.

Legs: Red-brown to dark red-brown.

Lower surface: Red-brown.

Vestiture: With whitish to yellowish hairs.

Distribution: South Africa.

Etymology: A posthumous dedication to the senior author's friend Karl Werner (1958–2007), one of the best collectors of African Cleridae .
