The micans View in CoL group

This group is characterized by the following character states: mentum with sides 6 sinuate, tooth wide and reaching, or almost reaching, apices of lobes, paramedian

1 By an unfortunate error, Allen (1972:167) used the manuscript name L. arkansasensis instead of L. extendus in his phylogenetic tree.

foveal pits large; lateral depressions of prontoum without or with relatively poorly impressed meshed microsculpture; disc of pronotum with indistinct meshed microsculpture; posterior angles of pronotum rounded; elytra with or without ( L. straneoi ) orange spot at apical fourth around suture; elytral microsculpture striate, lines indistinct; epipleuron with subapical plica; metasternum and metepisternum with or without ( L. straneoi ) punctures; metasternum with shallow but distinct constriction medially at level of posterior edges of mesocoxae; tarsomeres 5 without setae underneath; endophallus with sclerotized ring; body size small (SBL ¼ 6.0– 7.3 mm).

This group includes four species in the Nearctic Region. The inclusion of L. straneoi in this group is questionable. The metasternum and metepisterna are smooth and the elytra have no orange spot, unlike members of other species of the group. On the other hand, the mentum shape and the relatively large foveal pits are similar to those found in members of this group. The species has been placed with some species of the agilis group by Will and Liebherr (1998:234).
