Genus Bonassa Barnard & Karaman, 1991

Type species: Bonassa bonairensis (Stephensen, 1933)

Genus diagnosis. Antenna 1, callynophore absent in females, two fields well developed in males. Antenna 2 in male, peduncle article 4 enlarged, longer than broad, flagellum elongate in both sexes. Epistome and upper lip produced. Mandible, without medioposterior hump; lacinia mobilis absent; molar reduced and setose; palp attached proximal to molar. Maxilla 1, outer plate, ST7 slightly asymmetrical, STA-STD apically bifid; palp apically serrate. Gnathopod 1 simple and without sexual dimorphism. Pereopods 3–4 in both sexes, merus and carpus with plumose setae along the posterior margin. Uropod 3, peduncle elongate, without lateral projections; peduncle and rami in both sexes with plumose setae; outer ramus 1-articulate. Telson entire (modified from Lowry & Stoddart, 1997).

Composition of the genus. The genus Bonassa contains two species: B. bonairensis (Stephensen, 1933) and Bonassa brasiliensis sp. nov.
