Description. The Cyclocephala cribata species group is characterized by the following combination of characters. Color completely black; body broad, subrectangular. Head: Frons mostly impunctate, frontoclypeal suture weak ( Fig. 1A–F View FIGURE 1 ). Clypeus with punctures dense to scattered; apex parabolic, slightly reflexed ( Fig. 1A–F View FIGURE 1 ). Mandible without teeth, inner apex slight concave ( Fig. 7A–D View FIGURE 7 ); labium densely setose, apex medially notched, paraglossa developed ( Fig. 12A–B View FIGURE 12 ); maxilla with galea developed, with 8 teeth; lacinia sclerotized, projecting to one-third length of galea ( Fig. 8A–D View FIGURE 8 ). Epipharynx rectangular, densely setose, apex medially notched (ventral view, Fig. 13A View FIGURE 13 ) and dorsally with 2 lobes at middle slightly notched (dorsal view, Fig. 13B View FIGURE 13 ). Antenna with 10 antennomeres, club slightly longer than antennomeres 2–7. Pronotum: Surface with punctures moderately dense, moderately large to large (especially on sides), ocellate, deep. Base lacking marginal bead (Fig. 32A). Elytra: Surface punctate-striate, punctures of striae and intervals similar to those of pronotum; entire surface often coarsely and transversely wrinkled obscuring rows of punctures. Wing vein AA 3 shorted than AA 4 ( Fig. 21A–D View FIGURE 21 ). Anterior edge of the wing distal of apical hinge setose behind apical hinge ( Fig. 21D View FIGURE 21 ). Pygidium: Surface moderately densely punctate, punctures moderate in size to more usually moderately large, ocellate, setigerous; setae short, tawny, moderately dense. In lateral view, surface in males evenly convex, weakly convex to nearly flat in female. Legs: Protibia tridentate, basal tooth slightly removed from others. Protarsus in male enlarged: tarsomeres 2–4 each gradually larger than preceding, fourth with small tooth on ventral surface; fifth large, curved, with small angulation at base on ventral side; median claw large, curved, apex cleft. Metatarsus subequal in length to metatibia. Venter: Prosternal process moderately long, columnar, apex obliquely flattened in a transverse oval with anterior 2/3 to 4/5 raised into convex “button”. Female similar to male, but protarsus simple ( Fig. 1B, D, F View FIGURE 1 ). Gonocoxite larger than gonocoxal sternite, gonocoxite at center with membranous area (Fig. 32C–E).

The study of characters of the black Cyclocephala species groups reveals differences in the internal sac structures of the genitalia. The presence of a raspula and copulatory lamella in the inner sac is known only in the C. cribrata species group. When comparing characters of the internal sac among species of the C. cribrata species group, there are differences in the number of the copulatory armor: 5 in C. marqueti ( Fig. 31A View FIGURE 31 ) and 4 in C. proxima ( Fig. 31B View FIGURE 31 ).

Composition. This species group includes the following 11 species, of which, only three species are distributed in Colombia, and are treated below:
