Epicnemis namkyensis Mostovski 2000: 346–347 View in CoL , fig. 4.

Holotype. ♂. VIETNAM: 80km N Saigon [not examined].

Diagnosis. We have not examined the holotype of E. namkyensis , which was described from two males collected in Vietnam, but the specimens from the Philippines match the description well. This species was said by Mostovski to differ from the two described species at the time ( E. flavidula and E. testis ) by the longer cercus and the more deeply incised ventral margin of the epandrium. Differences in this species from the similar E. flavidula include the broader apex of the phallus and the narrower frons.

Description. Body 1.8–2.3 mm long. Frons brown; frontal width range 0.43–0.51. Frontal ratio 0.97–1.19. Twelve large frontal setae present, including one pair of supra-antennal setae. Ventral interfrontal setae same width apart as dorsal interfrontal setae. Ocellar triangle dark brown and slightly separated from rest of frons, with rounded posterior margin. Lateroventral part of frons with white triangular region with thin black line. Scutum yellowish-brown. Scutellum brown, short, broad, with four subequal setae. Pleuron uniformly yellow. Foretibia without strongly differentiated large setae, with dorsal row of several barely differentiated setae, decreasing in size apically. Midtibia with one posterodorsal seta near base, one slightly more apical anterodorsal seta present, and one anterodorsal seta at or above midlength; dorsally with setal palisade extending from base to midlength, more apically with transverse rows of fine setulae; few posterodorsal setae slightly enlarged apically. Hind tibia with several scattered medium-sized anterodorsal setae; dorsally with complete setal palisade, with row of small posterodorsal setulae closely parallel, followed more posteriorly by bare space before regular setulation. Wing large; mean costal length 0.51 wing length; range 0.48–0.53. Costal sector ratios 3.4–4:1. Halter knob yellowish-brown. Abdominal tergite 1 yellow except brown laterally, large, and extending laterally on segment. Tergites 2–6 similar in coloration except more brown laterally. Epandrium rectangular in shape; length greater than depth. Small triangular process present on anteroventral margin of epandrium; small concavity posteriorly to triangular process. Setae on ventral margin of epandrium, posterior to small concavity, twice as long as setae on cercus; straight and pointing ventrally, parallel to phallus. Scattered setae about same size as setae on cercus present on posteroventral margin of epandrium. Phallus length similar to depth of epandrium, emerging from behind anteroventral process and pointing ventrally. Phallus of consistent width throughout length but broader at apex; small curved projection present on anteroventral margin of phallus, close to base.

Distribution. Vietnam, Philippines.
