Type locality. “Mt. Nachi, Wakayama Pref. ” [ Japan, Honshu   GoogleMaps , Wakayama Prefecture, Mt. Nachi, ca. 33°41′N 135°52′E].

Type material. Holotype male ( EUMJ), labeled: “Mt. NACHI, KII, 2. V. 1962, T. Kawatsu” // “ Holotype Eurypogon ocularis SAKAI 1982 ”.

Additional material examined. JAPAN: HONSHU: 1 male, Nara-ken [Pref.], Odaigahara, Wasabi-dani , 1300– 1500 m, 31. V .1988, K. Akita leg. ( NMPC).

Diagnosis. This species can be recognized based on the following combination of characters: eyes large, slightly wider than the anterior margin of pronotum (at least in male; Figs 5C View FIGURE 5 , 9D View FIGURE 9 ), pronotal punctation ( Fig. 9D View FIGURE 9 ) very dense, with most punctures very close to each other, elytra together 2.4 or more times as long as wide, the elytral surface ( Fig. 10L View FIGURE 10 ) rather smooth and with moderately large punctures, and the median lobe ( Fig. 12I View FIGURE 12 ) about 4.8 times as long as wide.

Distribution. Eurypogon ocularis is endemic to Japan, being described from Kii Peninsula and so far known from several localities in southern and central Honshu ( Fig. 15 View FIGURE 15 ).
