Type locality. “Mt. Tsurugi, Tokushima Pref. ” [ Japan, Shikoku , Tokushima Prefecture, Mt. Tsurugi, ca. 33°51′N 134°05′E].

Type material. Holotype male ( EUMJ), labeled: “[SHIKOKU], Mt. Tsurugi , Tokushima Pref., 11. VII. 1976, A. Oda leg.” // “ Holotype Eurypogon hisamatsui SAKAI 1982 ”. Four paratypes [not studied by us], one male and three females ( EUMJ).

Additional material examined. JAPAN: HONSHU: 1 female, Gumma Pref., Nikko distr. , 1430–1500 m, 11.– 12.VIII.[19]80, L. Maranuma ( BMNH) .

Diagnosis. This species can be recognized based on the following combination of characters: punctures on head and pronotum ( Figs 4D , 9A ) relatively small and deep, elytra ( Fig. 4D ) together more than twice as long as wide, elytral punctures ( Fig. 10J ) fine, and aedeagal median lobe relatively broad for most of its length, then gradually narrowed towards apex ( Sakai 1982).

Sexual dimorphism. Females are slightly more robust and relatively shorter than males, with distinctly shorter antennae. For more information, see Sakai (1982).

Distribution. This species is endemic to Japan, being known across Honshu and Shikoku Islands ( Fig. 15 ).
