Hybalus bellmanni Frolov, Akhmetova & Montreuil , new species

( Figs. 1 View FIGURES 1 A–E)

Type material. Holotype. Male ( Figs. 1A View FIGURES 1 , C–E): “ Tunisia: Nabeul, El Kamira 20 km SW Grambalia 220 m leg. Bellmann 28.03.2013 ” ( ZIN) . Paratypes: 1 male with the same data as the holotype ( ZIN) ; 1 male: “ Tun. Chaouach R. Démoflys” ( MNHN) ; 3 males and 4 females: “ Tunisia: Nabeul, El Kamira 20 km SW Grambalia 220 m leg. Esser 28.03.2013 ” ( CJE, ZIN) ; 2 males: “ T.Maxula Radès III 1937 M. Grosclaude” ( MNHN) ; 1 male: “ Radès Tunisie Grosclaude” ( MNHN) ; 1 male: “ Radès Tunisie Dr. Boitel ” ( MNHN) .

Description. Holotype, male ( Figs. 1A View FIGURES 1 , C–E). Body length 7.4 mm, maximum width 4.8. Body strongly convex, shiny. Color of head, pronotum and elytra uniformly blackish brown; legs, antennae, and underside of the body slightly paler.

Frontoclypeus rounded anteriorly, obtusely rounded laterally, anterior margin with a long horn acutely rounded api- cally, somewhat curved caudally, slightly rugose on posterior side. Genae small, not protruding past eyes in dorsal view. Eyes small, similar in size to other members of the genus, about 1/15 width of head. Frontoclypeus with small carinae mediad of each eye.

Pronotum convex, almost smooth, feebly depressed anteriorly, with 2 small, rounded tubercles posteriad of the depression. Anterior margin with wide, smooth border, not sinuate medially. Posterior margin with fine border, not crenulate, punctate with sparse indistinct punctures.

Scutellum tiny, rounded apically, wider than length.

Elytra convex, without humeral humps. Maximum width approximately at anterior 1/3. Elytra with 7 poorly defined striae, 7th stria almost indistinct. Stria and intervals with minute punctures. Base of elytra impunctate.

Wings rudimentary.

Abdominal sternite 8 longer than sternites 7–4 combined, with widely sinuate apical margin, foveate near sinuation. Aedeagus ( Figs. 1C, D View FIGURES 1 ) with phallobase about 2 times longer than parameres. Parameres with apices depressed and bend downwards, Lateral sides of parameres with distinct teeth laterally (in dorsal view). Apices of parameres short and obtuse in apical view. Dorsal sides of parameres with distinct gibbosities (visible in apical view and appearing as a tooth in lateral view, Figs. 1D, E View FIGURES 1 ).

Paratypes. Body length of paratypes varies from 9.0–7.8 mm. Female ( Fig. 1B View FIGURES 1 ) differs from male in having narrower pronotum without depression and tubercles, absence of frontoclypeal horn, presence of a distinct spur on protibiae, and abdominal sternite 8 being longer and rounded apically.

Differential diagnosis. Hybalus bellmanni new species is most similar to H. servulus Normand, 1949 but differs from it by that shape of the aedeagus: parameres of H. servulus are shorter (about 2.5 times shorter than phallobase), wider and more triangular in lateral view ( Figs. 1F, G View FIGURES 1 ); lateral teeth of parameres somewhat rounded in apical view; dorsal sides of parameres without prominent gibbosities as in H. bellmanni new species ( Fig. 1H View FIGURES 1 ).

Distribution. The species is known from two localities in eastern parts of Tell Atlas and Aurès Mountains separated by about 60 km ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 ).

Etymology. The new species is named after Axel Bellmann, who collected and kindly provided the specimens.
